Get the Best Sound From Bose QC Headphones

Whether you just unboxed a pair of Bose QC Headphones or you've had them a while, a few small adjustments can noticeably improve your listening experience.
1. Update the Firmware
Bose regularly releases firmware updates through the Bose Music app that can improve battery life, fix bugs, and occasionally add new features. Open the app, connect your headphones, and check for updates before doing anything else.
2. Fine-Tune the EQ
Inside the Bose Music app, you'll find an EQ section with adjustable Bass, Mid, and Treble sliders. If you find the default sound a little bass-heavy, pulling the bass slider down slightly can open up more clarity in the mids — especially useful for podcasts and spoken-word content.
3. Choose the Right Noise Cancellation Level
Bose QC Headphones let you switch between full noise cancellation and Aware Mode, which lets outside sound in. Use full ANC for flights, commutes, or focus time — and switch to Aware Mode when you need to stay alert to your surroundings, like walking outside or in an office.
4. Get the Fit Right
Noise cancellation and bass response both depend heavily on a proper seal around your ears. Adjust the headband so the ear cups sit flush against your head without gaps — even a small gap can noticeably reduce bass and ANC performance.
5. Turn On Immersive Audio (QC Ultra Headphones only)
If you own the QC Ultra Headphones, try switching on Immersive Audio from the Bose Music app for a wider, more spatial soundstage — especially noticeable with movies and certain music genres. Keep in mind it does reduce battery life somewhat, so switch it off for long flights if battery matters more than the effect.
6. Keep the Case Handy
Storing your headphones in the included carrying case when not in use protects the ear cushions from wear and helps maintain a proper seal over time.
